The tone was set right off the start of the meet with Chap Boys winning the 200 medley relay. The girls followed up with the same feat and won the 200 medley relay as well. The Boys were just off what the went at last years state meet and the girls were just off there time from last year as well in the first meet of the season.
Afterwards the 200 free, Junior, Ellis Bohon (Chap) won the 200 free and his lifetime best time of 1:44.00. Ashley Strouse (Chap) won the 200 Free as well.
The 200 individual medley was won by Chaparral’s AZ Central Swimmer of the Year Matthew Leblanc, and was a sweep of 1st,2nd,3rd by Chap in that event with Cooper Kiel, and Anthony Clason following.
On the girls side of things Riley Courtney (Chap) won the 200 IM. In the 50 Free girls Sophomore Greer Pattison won in 23.42 and followed up with a 3rd and 4th finish as well.
Heading into the diving break the Boys were up by 8 over defending D1State Champ Brophy. After the Dive Break the Girls divers finished 1,3,4 with Mia Waters winning the event. Junior Daniel Simmons won the 100 fly and the only event of the day the girls lost was in the 100 fly. In the 100 free things got rough where the boys got swept by Brophy and finished 4th and 5th. That’s were Chaparral went down by 2 points. In the girls 100 free Sara Segneri picked up another event win and then followed with Ellis Bohon the only double event winner for Chaparral to win the 500 free. Ashley Strouse once again dominated the field in the 500 free which was a double win as well. The boys in the 2 free relay gave it there all and came up just short finishing second but went faster then the state championship relay of 2017. The girls won another relay posting a time that was faster then last years State Prelims. In the 100 back Greer Pattison another double event winner dominated and won the 100 back by over 5 seconds. Chaparral boys had a 1-2 finish in the 100 breast with Jonah Ho and Anthony Clason, but it wasn’t enough for Chaparral in a Dual Meet scoring format to defeat Brophy. Riley courtney another double event winner won the 100 breast for Chaparral girls and freshman Blakely Schuricht (Chap) finished second. The 400 free relay by Chap Girls swept the relays for the meet and the time posted was faster then last years State Prelims. The girls doubled up Xavier’s score and the boys were just shy of taking down defending 30 year state champ Brophy.
